2016 Visions of Point Loma
EAT. DRINK. CHAT.GIVE. That’s what the Point Loma Association’s 2016 Visions of Point Loma event on Thursday October 6 promised. It was the goal of the event, and we are here to report that it exceeded on every level!
The event was held at the beautiful Coasterra Restaurant Event Center on Harbor Island. Over 300 friends, neighbors and Peninsula supporters converged to EAT...devouring Cohn group executive chef Deborah Scott’s renowned morsels. Crabcakes, melt in your mouth short ribs and cream corn with poblano shooters were some of the shout out favorites.
DRINK: check. CHAT…But be prepared, with that many people in attendance there was plenty to go around. As one of those classy but “home spun” events, guests could run into their 7th grade teacher or the realtor that sold their first home. Only a few minutes of solemnity prevailed while CAPT Howard Warner III, Commander NBPL led the Pledge. Point Loma’s favorite son, Mayor Faulconer highlighted the event by presenting the coveted PLA Lighthouse Award to Scott McMillin and the Corky McMillin Companies for their visionary execution of Liberty Station- now a dynamic part of our community. SURPRISE: It started with a bang when Councilmember Lorie Zapf presented the PLA with a City of San Diego $5,000 grant for the next median refurbishment project. Captivating Auctioneer Rosemary Rodgers then engaged giving patrons for further support. Generosity flowed, all in support of the PLA to continue to execute community projects that enhance quality of life in the Peninsula. Bubbly and champagne in the new barge topped a fun evening!

2015 Visions of Point Loma
The 2015 Annual Dinner – Visions of Point Loma – was a great success. PLA raised over $35,000 to support current and new beautification projects for our community.
The event was held at the new Coasterra Events Center, with spectacular views of the San Diego Skyline. The food prepared by Chef Deborah Scott was delicious and all of the guests had fun shopping at our “PLA Store,” proving their knowledge of Point Loma History, and bidding on fun live auction items.
We congratulate Ron Brooks, who received Lighthouse Award, PLA’s highest distinction.
Mark your calendars for Visions of Point Loma 2016 on October 6, 2016!
2014 Visions of Point Loma
The 2014 Annual Dinner raised over $27,000 to fund future projects and support our many ongoing projects.
The event at the Liberty Station Conference Center featured the Pizzaro Brothers, beautiful and whimsical table centerpieces created by the Point Loma Artists Association, a lively live auction, and delicious food from To the Point Catering. During the evening, Dick Laureau wore a pathway to the stage for many proclamations of thanks for his work on behalf of the PLA — not the least of which was his 40+ year tour of duty creating the PLA Awards slide show. Final honors went to past PLA Chair Cecilia Carrick, who was presented with the Lighthouse Award by Councilman Ed Harris.
