The Graffiti Committee transforms ugly transformer boxes into works of art with the help of talented artists. The committee identifies candidate utility boxes for painting, and then coordinates with local agencies such as the City of San Diego and SDG&E to get permission for painting the box(es). After permission is granted, the committee works with a local artist on a potential design.
Before the box is painted, it must be prepped and primed according to agency specifications. After the artist performs his or her magic, the committee seals the box with UV-protectant.
The committee also identifies boxes requiring cleaning and re-sealing, and has recently contracted with Urban Corps for this work.
