January 5 - Rose Garden/Submarine Memorials
Today the Mean Green Team started the annual pruning of the roses at the Hugh Story Memorial Rose Garden in Liberty Station. Al Baber gave the rose team a refresher on how to correctly prune the rose bushes. After that we started our pruning. We got about two thirds of the roses completed. We will finish it up on Monday morning.
Other members of the Mean Green Team finished up the weeding in the Submarine Memorials beds as well as cleaning off the memorials.
We then met up at the new Dunkin' Doughnuts for refreshments and discussion.
January 12 - Pork Chops/Barnes Corner
Today the Mean Green Team spent their Friday working at the Pork Chops site and our first serious session cleaning up brush, palm trees, weeds and litter on the north east corner (think Barnes) of West Point Loma and Nimitz. There was a MG fluorescent vest under ‘every rock’ as they say. We worked hard, got much accomplished and even had fun.
Work ranged from tough palm trimming work; gathering construction dumped waste; litter pickup to weeding (great soft ground made it easier than usual).
We left the place very much cleaner and virtually litter free.
We then met up at Peet's for refreshments and discussion.
January 19 - Dewey
Today the Mean Green Team worked at the Dewey site. Along with our normal weeding and trash pickup, we spent the time pruning the bushes and trees. We also want to give a shout out to Dewey Elementary. They allowed us to dispose of our clippings and trash into their dumpster.
We then met up at Starbucks for refreshments and discussion.
