Good Point Gasoline & Rosecrans Automotive
GOOD POINT--and it is! On a family trip to the San Juan Islands, the Miller family brainstormed for a name for the new business they were buying. During the discussion, someone said, "good point" to a comment. Eureka! That became the name! Good Point in Point Loma.
Lucky for us, Stan Miller bought the property from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2010. He had bought the property adjacent to it on Canon Street in 1996. He was the landlord at first but then became the owner-manager. He has learned all the gas station complicated business and is very proud of all the station's compliance in this highly regulated business.
Stan has lived in Point Loma for 28 years and has a varied background. He traveled all over the world in his career as an international private banking agent, dealing mainly in property. He has purchased property and income property of his own in Santa Barbara, Texas and other parts in Point Loma.
He seems to like Point Loma best. He loves the "village feel" of the Village and hopes to contribute to it. He is happy about the growth but only if it is in compliance with all ordinances and the law. Stan feels there should be a balance of business and residential, and business that is not "big chain" business. The traffic is heavy but he feels that can be improved with good planning. Stan loves being able to wave at neighbors on the street that he has met through his businesses and community work.
Stan Miller is proud of Good Point. It is a convenient location and one that boats can get in and out of easily. He keeps the "retro" look because it is a neighborhood gas station--good service and a good neighbor. His gas prices may be a little higher but he does not sell tobacco, liquor or lottery tickets. Many gas stations do which provides a good sum of income, but Stan would rather just sell gas and help the community. He is involved in many youth organizations and liquor, smoking and gambling do not fit.
Stan has part-time high school students working at his station, learning good work ethics and responsibility. He is involved with the Boy Scout Troop 500, ages 10-18, at St. Agnes Church, the San Diego Yacht Club Sea Scout program, a high school co-ed group and the Maritime Explorer Club, a middle-school co-ed group founded by the Maritime Institute here in Point Loma.
Stan Miller definitely enjoys community leadership and involvement. He is a generous donor and a good neighbor. Be sure to get to know this great, friendly man and wave at him when you see him in the Village. He'll love it.
Hector Medina is the proud owner of Rosecrans Automotive, located at 1076 Rosecrans in the Good Point gas station building. He is from San Diego and had rented the garage for 15 years. After Stan Miller bought the station, Hector was able to fulfill one of his goals. He bought the garage from Stan and now works like crazy.
