Melanie Sherman

Originally from the Midwest; I was born in Ann Arbor, MI and raised in a nearby rural community. After high school, I moved to Ann Arbor to work and study business at the University of Michigan.

I’ve been in San Diego since 1983 when I began a 40 year career in research administration at UC San Diego. The majority of that time I was the Business Director for the HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program and Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research, headed by Igor Grant, MD. I retired in June 2020 but returned to consult part-time until October 2023.

My husband, Robert Sherman, and I have owned our Point Loma/Ocean Beach home for over 25 years. He is a Point Loma native, licensed captain and owner of YachtSource. We have one daughter who attended Silver Gate Elementary through PL High and earned a BS at Cal Poly SLO.

I am an avid fan of the arts, theater and travel, but also enjoy giving back to the community. My volunteer experience (not including when our daughter was in PL schools, where we were active volunteers, or prior) include the Mean Green Team and Beautification Committee, PL Assembly and ACCESS Committee, OB Women’s Club, Petal Share and Girls on the Run.

My passions are gardening, reading and long distance running. Marathons I’ve completed include Boston, New York and Chicago but I now train and occasionally travel to run Half Marathons. I also enjoy sailing with my husband on our Catalina 34, and we are members of Silver Gate Yacht Club.
